ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
Special thanks goes to all my committee members; Dr. Ellen Wohl
for providing me the opportunity to study endangered fish from the
geomorphic perspective. Your encouragement, patience and willingness to
work with me throughout my program are appreciated. I thought the dunk
you took in the ice cold Green River was the end of my study. Dr. Stan
Schumm for great background in geomorphology and perspective on study
approach; Dr. Robert Behnke for introducing me to the endangered fishes
of the Colorado River system and perspective on fish biology and evolution;
Dr John Stednick for insightful guidance on evaluating stream discharge,
sediment, and water quality relationships; Dr. Clair Stalnaker for
perspective on habitat restoration efforts throughout the world and
encouragement to keep going when being faced with difficult political
roadblocks. Clair, thanks for providing helpful reviews of dissertation.
The river rescue and survival class you provided was also valuable, for
many people have gone overboard during my work.
Funding for this work was provided by the National Park Service,
Natural Resource Preservation Program (NRPP). I especially thank Dr.
Robert Schiller, Assistant Chief Scientist, Rocky Mountain Region, for his
support in initiating my study program. Steve Petersburg, Dinosaur National
Monument; Bruce Rogers and Craig Hauke from Canyonlands and John
Ritenour and Susan Dodson from Glen Canyon and other resource managers
from river parks provided field support and guidance for aspects-of the
program. Janet Wise and Bob Moon from the NPS. Colorado Plateau
System Support Office, have provided much support and patience during the
conclusion of the NRPP for endangered fishes.
Funding was also provided by the Endangered Fish Recovery
Program.
