ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

All of the work group participants and the Biology Committee members provided
valuable input into this plan. Discussions with these people at the five
meetings and numerous telephone conversations furnished the basis for the plan
outline and content. Brandt Gutermuth, Utah Division of Wildlife Resources,
reviewed previously identified endangered fish needs and summarized this
information in spreadsheets that formed the basis for tables in this report.
Don P. Toney, Manager, Ouray Endangered Fish Facility, U.S. Fish and Wildlife
Service, provided valuable assistance in synthesizing basic growth data on the
endangered fishes that are summarized in Tables 4 through 7 and Table 10. He
also summarized the space and water requirements that are summarized in Tables
8, 9, and 11. J. Holt Williamson, Propagation Coordinator for the Recovery
Implementation Program, provided drafts of various reports that he wrote for
the Recovery Implementation Program that were cited throughout this plan. He
also provided Figures 1, 2, 3, and 4 and contributed essential information to
this report through valuable discussions and critical review. Norman Erthal,
Colorado Division of Wildlife, shared his experience on the use of
infiltration galleries in fish hatcheries. Kim Eickmann, Fish and Wildlife
Service engineer, provided cost figures for the proposed endangered fish
facilities at the Ouray National Wildlife Refuge. Buddy Jensen and Roger
Hamman of the Dexter National Fish Hatchery and Technology Center, New Mexico,
reviewed the document dated March 29, 1993 and provided comments for
improvement. These persons were also extremely helpful in sharing their
experience and records in propagation of the endangered Colorado River fishes.
Michele Dutton, Fisheries Resources, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Denver,
Colorado prepared Figure 3 and the color diagram in Figure 4. Cathy Beckett,
Division of Federal Aid, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Denver, Colorado,
produced the computer-generated graphs in Figures 5 through 18.
The information in the "Coordinated Hatchery Facility Plan" dated April 15,
1993 (Wydoski, Toney, and Williamson 1993) was used extensively in this
revision of this document. Sections VII and VIII of this plan are derived
from "Genetics Management Guidelines" (Williamson and Wydoski 1994).
s
i
1
xii
