<br /> <br />Central Utah Participating Project, Vernal Unit, Utah <br /> <br />The principal features of the Vernal unit were placed in service <br />as of January 1, 1963. The completed features consist of the <br />Steinaker Dam and Reservoir, Fort Thornburgh diversion dam, <br />Steinaker feeder canal, Steinaker service canal and laterals, and a <br />water savings pipe system. Project drains may be constructed at a <br />later date. The Bureau of Reclamation began operating the storage <br />features of the project in January 1963 with funds advanced by the <br />Uintah Water Conservancy District. <br /> <br />The multipurpose unit will furnish a supplemental water <br />supply to 14,700 acres of partially irrigated lands and 1,600 acre-feet <br />of supplemental water for municipal use. <br /> <br />Emery County Participating Project, Utah <br /> <br />Construction work was initiated on the J oes Valley Dam in June <br />1963. The dam will be an earthfill structure 740 feet long at the <br />crest and will have a height of approximately 195 feet. Contracts <br />were awarded during the year for relocating Utah State Highway <br />No. 29, and for constructing temporary camp facilities. Other activi- <br />ties during the year consisted mainly of collecting design data for <br />the other project features which will include the Huntington North <br />Dam and Reservoir, the Swasey diversion dam, the Cottonwood <br />Creek-Huntington Canal, the Huntington North Service Canal, and <br />a drainage system. <br /> <br />Florida Participating Project, Colorado <br /> <br />Construction of the earthfill Lemon Dam continued throughout <br />the year and is now estimated to be 81 percent completed. The <br />215-foot high 3-million cubic yard earthfill dam is scheduled for <br />completion in fiscal year 1964. Work on irrigation facilities to be <br />operated in conjunction with the Lemon Dam and Reservor con- <br />tinued during the fiscal year. The Florida Farmers diversion dam, <br />and enlargement of Florida Farmers Ditch and Florida Canal has <br />been completed and they will be placed in service in fiscal year 1964. <br />Construction work on the laterals will be completed in fiscal year <br />1964. Storage. of irrigation water is scheduled to begin in January <br />1964. <br /> <br />Hammond Participating Project, New Mexico <br /> <br />The Hammond project located in northwestern New Mexico was <br />essentially completed in fiscal year 1963.
