diverted from the reservair and carried appraximately 150 miles ta
the Navaja Indian lands.

San Juan-Choma Participating Project, Colorado and New Mexico

Constructian was started an the San Juan-Chama project in
sauth-central Colarado and narth-central New Mexica. Wark began
during the fiscal year an the 12.8 mile Azatea tunnel through the
continental divide. Other wark cansisted af callectian af field data
for design and constructian specifications far the other project
features including the Heran Na. 4 Dam and Reservoir, the EI Vada
Dam autlet and far a diversian canal and canduit system.

The project will invalve the transmauntain diversion of western
slape water from the San Juan Basin inta the eastern slape of the
Chama Basin. The initial phase of the project, which is presently
authorized, will provide facilities for an average annual transmoun-
tain diversion of 110,000 acre-feet of water. Principal users of the
water will be the city of Albuquerque and the Middle Rio Grande
Conservancy District.

Seedskadee Participating Project, Wyoming

Fontenelle Dam, principal feature of the Seedskadee praject, is
essentially campleted and work on the 10,000-kilawatt powerplant is
abaut one-half camplete. A contract was awarded for initial con-
struction work on a develapment farm. The farm will be built on the
Seedskadee project and operated under a cooperative agreement
among the University of Wyoming, the Soil Canservation Service,
and the Bureau af Reclamation. The purpose of the development
farm is to determine and demonstrate the most effective, economic,
and best adapted water management practices, crap production, and
lives tack handling techniques and their relationship to aptimum
family sized farm units and a project distributian system.

Work progressed an the relocation of U. S. Highway 189 (79
percent completed), an reservoir clearing (100 percent completed),
and the powerplant and switchyard (53 percent completed).

Silt Participating Project, Colorado

Funds were appropriated in fiscal year 1964 to begin construc-
tian activities on the Silt project. Funds were expended mainly to
purchase right-af-way, to collect design data for Rifle Gap Dam and
Reservoir and other irrigation facilities, and far the relocatian of
Colorado State Highway 325. A contract was awarded for construc-

..
I
I

j
I

tian af an affice and labaratory building to be used during the
canstructian period.

The principal features include the Rifle Gap Dam on Rifle
Creek, which will stare water far release into Davie ditch and to
Rifle Creek for diversian to the Grass Valley Canal. Water will alsa
be pumped fram the Colarada River near Silt at the Silt pumping
plant ta serve project lands.

Smith fork Participating Project, Colorado

Minor canstruction work and final testing af the Smith Fark
feeder canal and diversion dam, Crawford Dam and Reservair, and
the Aspen Canal were completed during the year. The praject warks
consisting af the Crawford Dam and Reservoir Smith Fork diversion
dam, Smith Fark feeder canal, Aspen Canal a~d an operating head-
quarters were transferred ta the Crawfard Water Conservancy
District for operation an January 1, 1964.

Advance Planning Activities

The major partion af this wark consists of the collection of final
design data, the preparation of final designs and specificatians and
completion of definite plan reports. It also< includes negotiations
with local interests leading ta execution of repayment contracts.

The definite plan report on the Banneville unit af the central
Utah project is nearing completian and work progressed on reports
on the Upalco and Jensen units, which are scheduled for campletion
in fiscal years 1965 and 1997, respectively.

Quality af water studies were continued in the Upper Calarada
River Basin as autharized by law.

fish and Wildlife Development

In cooperation with the Arizana, New Mexico, Utah, and
Wyoming Fish and Game Departments, the Bureau of Sport Fish-
eries and Wildlife stocked 6 million rainbow trout and 2 million
largemouth bass fingerlings in Lake Powell, Flaming Gorge, and
Navaja Reservoirs to meet jointly established fishery management
abjectives. Due to its remote location and extensive surface area
the stocking operation at Lake Powell relied heavily on air transport
far delivery and release of the 5.8 million fish assigned to the lake.

Purchase af the North Trout Farm and the Chipeta rearing
unit from the Colarado Department of Game, Fish, and Parks has
given the Bureau of Sport Fisheries and Wildlife the cambination of
