General Beliefs and Attitudes toward Endangered Fish

Although the four fish are officially listed as endangered, not all individuals may believe this
status is correct, When respondents were asked "Do you believe that these fish are
endangered?", less than two-thirds (61 %) said yes; 14% replied no, while a quarter were not
sure (Figure 13).

As expected, more environmental group members believed the fish were endangered (78%)
than any other group (Figure 14). About two-thirds (64%) of the anglers, and over half of the
elected officials (58%) and general public (55%) believed that these fish populations were in
trouble,
