Five of
the squawfish were adults, 36 were juveniles, 51 were age-O and 9 were classified as larvae.

The five adult Colorado squawfish were captured during pre-runoff sampling. Three of the fish were captured
in the Sheep Canyon area, the other two were captured near the base of Imperial Rapid. All adult squawfish
were pit-tagged and released (Table 8). One squawfish, captured near Sheep Canyon, was a recapture that
had~een previously tagged 28.7 miles upstream by UDWR on October 9, 1992 at RM 206.7 in Cataract
Canyon. Tissue samples (muscle plugs) were taken from all adult squawfish by C. Weins of the USFWS.

Table 8. Resulting geometric mean CPE for age-O squawfish captured seining was 1.05 fish/100m2.
Average length of age-O Colorado squawfish captured during pre-runoff sampling was 44 mm TL (range 30-57
mm TL). Juvenile Colorado squawfish captured during pre-runoff sampling ranged from 61 to 96 mm TI...
A length frequency histogram for age-O and juvenile squawfish is presented in Figure 3. All age-O and juvenile
squawfish were captured in backwaters from Imperial Rapid (RM 200) to the Rite Bridge (RM 171). No age-
o or juvenile squawfish were captured outside backwater habitats during pre-runoff sampling.

During post-runoff sampling three juvenile Colorado squawfish were captured. Two fish were captured by
electrofishing (one below Dark Canyon and one at Sheep Canyon), and one was captured by seining near the
base of Imperial Rapid.

11
