The study will be conducted for the Governance
Committee and will be supervised by the Governance Committee's Executive Director's Office.
The study must address the following objectives:
• Determine foraging locations for least terns and piping plovers in relation to nest sites.
• Determine if chick survival is affected by adult foraging time or distance to foraging site.
• Develop time-activity budgets for nesting least terns and piping plovers.
• Determine movements of least terns and piping plovers between nesting areas along the
central Platte River.
• Determine post fledgling movements of least terns and piping plovers along the central
Platte River.
• Estimate number of chicks fledged per nest and pair.
Nearly all least terns and piping plovers nest on privately owned lands and will require
permission from the landowner to conduct surveys. Before any work is done on private lands
not under Program control a copy of a written and signed agreement between the landowner and
the researcher addressing rights of entry and any limitations will be given to the Executive
Director's Office.
In responding to this RFP, the Governance Committee requests a study proposal that includes:
Detailed methods describing how the above objectives will be addressed.
