plant. The automated process and SCADA system allows for routine monitoring from
remote locations and the system alarms the operators whenever specifications are not
met.
Water is gravity fed from the treatment tanks to the entire distribution system. Larger
mainlines truncate east and west from the storage tanks, from which smaller lines branch
out to service various subdivisions and individual properties. Park Center Water District
has approximately 38 miles of distribution system lines in the ground. 95% of all
distribution lines are made of PVC and all recent and future improvements will be made
of class C900 or better pipe. Valves are strategically located to enable us to isolate small
areas and fire hydrants are placed at the direction of the Fire Authority. We have had an
active cross connection control program for almost 20 years. In 1997 we replaced all
meters in the system and activated a meter replacement program to make sure water
readings are accurate for billing purposes. Approximately 80 % of the distribution
system is looped and all new development requires fine extensions and looping of
distribution lines by the developer.
