soil nail launcher 9702455001 p.l

Soil Nail launcher, Inc.
549 South Broadway 11488 Nuda
Grand hrrdion, CO 81503 Gornmerte City, CO 80022
Phone 970 270 4624 fax 970 245 5001 email bbarrett33t~aOl.com
www.soilnailfauncher.com
October 3, 2003
Mr. Kent Whitmer, President
East Fork Mutual Irrigation Company
Box 38
• Hot Sulphur Springs, CO 80451
Dear Mr. Whitener,
Soil Nail Launcher, Inc. installed arrays of Launched Nails in two landslide
headscarps along the East Fork Ditch in May of this year. These nails are
designed to stop or slow the progress of those slides into the ditch line proper.
The two active landslides are quite large and rem~liation will be difficult. We did
nothing to mitigate the damage they have caused downslope nor did we do
anything to affect them either positively or negatively. The immediate problem
we addressed was the concern that steep scarps under your ditch road bank
would "calve off' and cause damage to your road and ditch.
The Launched Soil Nails are intended to intercept a local "Rankine-type" failure in
the unfailed soil slope. They seem to be performing as intended. The concern for
this local solution would be a major expansion of the downsk~pe slides that would
include a major portion of the hillside and ditch. It is difficult to predict the long-
term prognosis for those slides.
Please I-et me know if you have questions or comments.
~ Since I
y yours,
~l~ /
o ert K. Barrett, President
Cc: Brian Lenn, NWCC
