2.0 <br />AREA STUDIED <br />2.1 Scope of Study <br />This Countywide Flood Insurance 5tudy covers both the unincorporated and <br />incorporated areas of Montezuma County, Colorado. <br />The areas studied by detailed methods were selected based upon the extent and <br />validity of available existing hydrologic and hydraulic data. <br />The following streams were studied by detailed methods throughout the <br />• Chicken Creek was studied from U.S. Highway 160 to a point <br />approximately 230 feet upstream of the extension of Walnut Street (Muller <br />Engineering, March 1982). <br />• Dolores River was studied from McPhee Reservoir upstream to the <br />Montezuma County Line, a reach of approximately 35 miles (U~ S. Army <br />Corps of Engineers, Sacramento District, August 2005). <br />• West Dolores River was studied from the confluence with the Dolores <br />River upstream to the Montezuma County Line, a reach of approximately <br />4 miles (U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Sacramento District, August <br />2005). <br />~ Mancos River was studied from the confluence with Chicken Creek <br />upstream to a point approximately 700 feet upstream of U.S. i~!-Iighway <br />160, a reach of approximately 3.7 miles (Muller Engineering, M~ ch 1982 <br />and Anderson Consulting Engineers, Inc., August 2006). <br />• Lost Canyon Creek was studied from approximately 2,~40 feet <br />downstream of County Road 30 upstream to a point approximately 4,100 <br />feet upstream of that same highway, a reach of approximately ~.2 miles <br />(U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Sacramento District, September 1978). <br />• Several streams were studied in the City of Cortez (Goff Engineering, <br />October 2005) including the following: (a) Carpenter Wash, w~ich was <br />studied from N Broadway upstream to approximately 450 feet up~stream of <br />Empire Street, a reach length of approximately 1.7 miles; (b) Denny Lake, <br />which was studied upstream from Denny Lake to approximately 930 feet <br />upstream of the frontage road north of Denny Lake; (c) Glade Draw, <br />which was studied from approximately 1.2 miles downstream of 7~' Street <br />to approximately 340 feet upstream of 7`~ Street, a total ~reach of <br />approximately 1.2 miles; (d) Industrial Wash, which was studiec~ from its <br />confluence with Carpenter Wash upstream for a distance of approximately <br />1,350 feet; (e) Lower Cornett Draw, which was studied from its <br />~ <br />~ <br />4 <br />
