As the slope of the valley decreases <br />_ downstream of the bridge, the stream is unable to carry the sediment and is dropped out of <br />~ <br />' suspension. The deposits result in the troublesome aggradation at the Sites 2 and 3. Solution of <br />~ the problem requires reducing the sediment supply sources from the bed and banks, ~.nd to the <br />: extent possible, controlling the runoff from increased urbanization. <br />; <br />~ <br />2 <br />Problems at the County Road 21 ~ridge with lack of conveyance beneath the roadway are <br />i symptoms of a larger watershed and stream instability that will require cooperation from property <br />i owners, the County and City, and along State H'ighway right-of-way. Solutions to probl ms along <br />! <br />the Creek aze likely to be unsuccessful without attacking the symptoms in a comprehe sive plan. <br />i ~ <br />~ Cooperation of the interested parties throughout the watershed is an integral part of th plan. <br />~ Figures 24 and 25 depict successful erosion protection that reduces sediment su ply using <br />natural stone riprap and vegetation. The result provides increased stability with low '' tenance, <br />and is generally considered to be aesthetically pleasing. Grade control structures to rai e channel <br />bed elevation and to stop degradation can also be constructed of natural stone riprap. Design <br />criteria have been developed. Following review of this report and discussions with County <br />personnel, consideration may be given to constructing a test reach for bank stabilization in Site 7. <br />11 <br />
