Water Rights
The shareholders of the WVDC have the ability to divert 165.0 cfs
from the South Platte River under their original irrigation right
decreed November 21, 1895 with an appropriation of October 26,
1881. The WVDC and its shareholders also have a conditional 2002
water right for recharge.
As mentioned before, the WVDC has had an average annual diversion
of 36,000 acre feet for all water diverted into the Weldon Valley
ditch. Yearly diversions for the WVDC would be considered fairly
inconsistent. Variations in these numbers correspond to the
amount of rainfall during the irrigation season and overall
demand for recharge water. More rainfall in a certain year meant
that less water had to be diverted for irrigation that year and
vice versa.
Cost Estimate
The estimated total project cost is $150,000.
