immediately. Michelle Garrison has been leading the conference calls this year to determine when
CROPS would be initiated to generate the peak called for in the flow recommendation. The following is
a very short description of the operation:
1. Green Mountain and Ruedi reservoirs, operated by Reclamation, began increasing outflows the
afternoon of June 4th.
2. Windy Gap and Willow Creek reservoirs, operated by the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy
District, began increasing the morning of June 5th.
The participating reservoirs voluntarily bypassed inflows for CROPS as follows:
Green Mountain Reservoir 400 - 450 cfs approximately 5 days
Ruedi Reservoir 400 cfs approximately 5 days
Windy Gap Reservoir 180 cfs approximately 3 days
Willow Creek Reservoir 70 cfs approximately 3 days
Wolford reservoir, operated by the Colorado River Water Conservancy District, and Williams Fork
reservoir, operated by Denver Water, were already full and spilling and therefore already bypassing all
available inflow. Homestake reservoir, operated by Colorado Springs Utilities, could not increase
outflows due to flooding concerns on the Eagle River. (Randy Seaholm)
UPPER COLORADO RIVER RECOVERY PROGRAM (UCRIP) COMPLETES FISH
PASSAGE FACILITIES IN GRAND VALLEY -The UCRIP has completed construction of a
unique fish passage at the Price-Stubb Diversion Dam on the Colorado River. The 900-foot-long passage
restores river access to the four Colorado River endangered fish from Lake Powell to Rifle, Colorado.
The passage consists of 190 strategically-placed concrete cylinders that form the fish passage and create
flow conditions that allow the fish to migrate upstream. Completion of the Price-Stubb fish passage gives
endangered fish access to 50 miles of critical habitat that had been blocked since the 8-foot-high diversion
dam was completed in 1911. Other Recovery Program fish passages are in place at the Grand Valley
Irrigation Company Diversion Dam and Grand Valley Project Diversion Dam on the Colorado River and
at the Redlands Diversion Dam on the Gunnison River. On July 1St I participated in the ceremony
dedicating the completion of these fish passage facilities that involved representatives of all the UCRIP
participants. (Randy Seaholm)
WILD AND SCENIC CONEPTUAL PLAN TO BLM -The Bureau of Land Management
(`BLM") Wild and Scenic alternatives group submitted a Conceptual Plan to the Bureau of Land
Management and they continue to meet. The Group has hired Rob Buirgy as the Project Manager for
Phase II of the Project and Barbara Lewis will continue to serve as the Facilitator. The Glenwood Springs
and Kremmling BLM field offices are continuing to conduct their review of eligible streams within those
areas (through their Resource Management Plans) to determine if the identified eligible segments are
suitable for wild and scenic.
