Water Supply Reserve Account - Grant Application Form
Fonn Revised May 2007
deploys over 60 professional Project Management, Science, Public Funding Legal, and Land Protection staff in
developing and delivering its projects. Individuals performing in these functions are skilled in working collaboratively
with partners to deliver conservation success.
TNC has been working in the Republican River basin since 1999, when it acquired the approxiinately, 1=1, 000-acre Fox
Ranch on the Arickaree River. Today the Fox is managed to conserve grassland and water related resources and is
operated as a cattle ranch in conjunction with a local ranching family. The upland prairies on the ranch are important
for conservation, but it was the live reach of the Arickaree River and the associated riparian communities that were and
continue to be the most important conservation resources on the property. For this reason, the Colorado Division of
Wildlife provided significant financial resources for the acquisition to match funds. from the North American Wetlands
Conservation Act The Nature Conservancy vohrntarily pays the annual property taxes on the ranch and is initiating a
public turkey hunting program in 2008.
If the Contracting Entity- is different then the Applicant (Project Sponsor or Owner) please describe the
Contracting Entity here.
There are two contracting entities that will be involved in this project They are a well tester and an appraiser. They
will be involved in a minor° element of the work condzrcted under this application. ?SI)eciftcally, the well tester will
assess the viability of two wells with valid permits that are currently, not in operation. Based on the findings of the
tester, the appraiser will determine the value of the permits. An evaluation will then be made of whether additional
funds outside the scope of this grant will be sought to incentiviae the retirement of those wells. The entities that we
anticipate contracting with are:
Well tester: Ouality Irrigation, Yuma, CO
Appraiser: Yuma County Abstract Company Crrrt Fix, Wray, CO
Additional details on this part of the proposal are described in later sections of this application
Part B. - Description of the Water Activity - Please Refer to Criteria and Guidance Document for Eligibly Requirements
Naive ofivater activity/project:
Arickaree River Well Retirement Program
