Irrigation <br />Ditch west of Poncha Springs <br />DeWeese 7,700 Grape Creek 60 Storage <br />Reservoir (principal tributary), Custer County <br />Funding/revenue sources: In addition to providing municipal storage via allocations of space to two <br />municipalities in Chaffee County, the District is involved in making available replacement water marketed <br />through its various augmentation plans for out of priority depletions. <br />The municipalities are The City of Salida and the Town of Poncha Springs. The City of Salida storage <br />allotment in District high mountain reservoirs is utilized to exchange water from its native water rights on <br />the South Arkansas and provide a backup water supply to service its approximately 5,500 residents. The <br />Town of Poncha Springs operates several wells to provide water to its 580 plus residents, and cannot <br />provide augmentation water for well depletions without access to District storage vessels. <br />The District operates through its Water Activity Enterprise four types of water augmentation plans that <br />provide domestic, industrial and irrigation replacement water supplies to augment wells, ponds and direct <br />diversions structures. The replacement water market is a rapidly expanding area that utilizes fully <br />consumable surface water to replace depletions from groundwater use via unique surface water <br />management strategies. This marketed water is released into streams impacted by depletions from <br />groundwater use. Domestic and commercial augmentation water demand is currently 18% of the District's <br />water use and serves approximately 1,700 participants, many who are residents in unincorporated <br />Upper Arkansas Water Conservancy District (UAWCD) Page 5 of 52
