Water Supply Reserve Account - Grant Application Form <br />Foim Revised AIai⢠2007 <br />Water demand is presently: irrigation (38% of use); domestic and commercial augmentation (18%); <br />municipal storage (25%); water leases and instream flows (12%); and evaporation replacement (7%). <br />Type of organization, year formed, and statutes under which formed: The Upper Arkansas Water <br />Conservancy District (UAWCD) was formed in 1979 pursuant to C.R.S. 37-45-102 and case number <br />79CV30. The district is a quasi-municipality created by decree to provide for the conservation of water <br />resources and to provide the greatest beneficial use of water within the Upper Arkansas Basin of the State <br />of Colorado specifically in Chaffee, Fremont, Custer and parts of Saguache and El Paso Counties by the <br />construction of works as defined in C.R.S. 37-45-103(10), i.e. construction of dams, storage reservoirs, <br />compensatory and replacement reservoirs, canals, conduits, pipelines, tunnels, power plants, and any and <br />all works, facilities, improvements, and property necessary or convenient for the supplying of water for <br />domestic, irrigation, power, milling, manufacturing, mining, metallurgical, and all other beneficial uses. <br />Number of customers: The district has 6,719 customers who use water for uses including irrigation (38% <br />of use); domestic and commercial augmentation (18%); municipal storage (25%); water leases and <br />instream flows (12%); and evaporation replacement (7%). See Table 2, below. <br />Service area: The District's service area covers more than 2 million acres at the headwaters of the <br />Arkansas River. Table 1 summarizes the District service area in all or parts of five counties in the high <br />mountains of Central Colorado: Chaffee, Fremont, Custer and parts of Saguache and El Paso Counties. <br />Table 1.
