Harris welcomed the
new IBCC members Jeff Devere, Rod Kuharich, and Peter Nichols. Harris reviewed the discussion
that occurred at the May IBCC meeting that focused on visions and strategies and that the outcome
from that meeting was direction from the IBCC to move forward with both on a parallel path.
Harris reviewed goals for meeting. Harris stated that he would like to have a draft vision statement
finalized by end of the meeting. He explained that the process of developing the vision and the
strategies will be iterative.
Vision and Strategies for Colorado's Water Supply Future
Eric reminded the group the questions the IBCC has been addressing in its last several meetings and
explained what the visioning process is intended to accomplish. He indicated that the visioning
process is to take a long term perspective. Eric presented the draft vision statement for input by the
IBCC. Following were the initial comments on the vision statement:
T. Wright Dickinson - Stated that he would like clarification on the Draft Vision Statement.
Melinda Kassen - The vision statement does not appear to be vision statement written for people
that are not on the IBCC - who are we writing the vision statement for?
Harris Sherman - The vision is intended for a broader audience such as the decision makers like the
legislature and the Governor.
Jay Winner - Recommended that the vision statement needs to be very short and that objectives and
performance measures need to follow.
Wayne Vanderschuere - Agreed with Jay Winner that a short vision statement is preferable.
Eric Kuhn - The statements before the vision statement are more background information or a
preamble and suggested a shorter vision statement.
The IBCC agreed to revise the language of the vision statement to the following:
We envision a Colorado that sustaitlably nieets Iminicil)al, industrial, agricultural,
enviroinnerital, and recreational tzeeds byl)roruotitig cooperatiotz anzotig all irater uses.
