I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

Alternative 1 is for the excavation of a core trench in the center of the dam between Sta. 21 +00 and
24+39 to a depth of 17 feet below the dam crest and the recompaction the excavated material to a
density greater than 95% of the maximum dry density. This alternative will cutoff the seepage in the
zone it pierces and will also add considerable stability to the dam by removing and replacing the
poorly compacted material found in the dam.

The estimated total project cost for this alternative is $ 289,758 as show in Table 2. A complete
breakdown of the work proposed and expected costs are included in Table 2.

Alternative 2 - Sheet Pile WaU

Alternative 2 is for the placement of a steel sheet pile wall along the center ofthe dam embankment
between Sta. 21+00 and 24+93. The steel sheet pile wall is to extend from the crest of the dam down
into bedrock. The sheet pile wall will cutoff the seepage in the zone where the wall is placed.
However, the sheet pile wall will not add stability to the dam or prevent future settlement of the
embankment.

The estimated total project cost for this alternative is $ 494,858 as show in Table 3. A complete
breakdown of the work proposed and expected costs are included in Table 3.

Alternative 3 - Bentonite Slurry Trench

Alternative 3 is for the placemc::nt of a bentonite slurry trench along the center of the dam
embankment between Sta. 21 +00 and 24+93. The bentonite slurry trench is to extend from the crest
of the dam down into bedrock. The seepage in the zone where the bentonite slurry trench is placed
will be cutoff due the low hydraulic conductivity ofthe wall. However, the bentonite slurry trench
will not add stability to the dam or prevent future settlement of the embankment.

The estimated total project cost for this alternative is $ 375,158 as show in Table 4. A complete
breakdown of the work proposed and expected costs are included in Table 4.

Rist-Benson Feasibility Study

Page 8
