Scope of Work
Town of Walden Water Supply Improvement Project
4. Alternative 4 -Change the use of the Town's shares in the Walden Reservoir to
municipal and augmentation use including the augmentation of the Town's
Hansen Park well or other wells and diversions structures.
Tasks
This work plan is divided into four major tasks with multiple sub-tasks under each,
addressing each of the objectives. The following is a list and description of tasks to be
completed under this Scope of Work.
Task 1: Construct a New Collection Gallery to Divert the Senior Hi Ho Ditch
1.1-Construct Test Wells or Pits to Determine Alluvial Characteristics
A water well contractor will be hired to construct test wells or test pits to determine
the saturated thickness and transmissivity of the alluvium adjacent to the Michigan
River in order to determine if a collection gallery is feasible. The Engineer will
provide direction and supervision of the contractor.
1.2 -Design the Collection Gallery Based on Information from the Test Welts
The Engineer will design the collection gallery to divert up to 1.0 cubic feet per second
(cf s) of the Hi Ho Ditch water right. The collection gallery will deliver water into a
sump where water can be pumped to the Town's water treatment plant.
1.3 - Acquire a 404 Permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USAGE,) if needed
A Section 404 wetland permit may be required in order to allow construction of the
collection gallery in the area adjacent to the Michigan River. The Engineer will assist
in obtaining the permit for the Town.
1.4 - Obtain a DWR Well Permit for the Collection Gallery
The Engineer will assist in obtaining a well permit f or the Town to allow construction
of the well.
1.5 - Obtain an Alternate Point of Diversion for the Hi Ho Ditch to the Collection
Gallery
The Town's water attorney will file an application with the Division 6 Water Court to
allow the collection gallery to divert the Hi Ho Ditch as an alternate point of diversion
to the existing surf ace diversion. The Engineer will assist the water attorney with the
engineering analysis and other inf ormation needed to f ile the application and provide
an expert report and testimony if needed at trial. It is expected that the application
will not be contested and that the V1Tater Court will grant the decree within 6 months.
1.6 -Construct the Collection Gallery after the Alternate Point of Diversion is
Decreed
The Engineer will provide construction supervision and oversight of a water well
contractor hired to construct the collection gallery and pumping system and connect it
to the Town's water supply.
2
