4. A list of resources that can be used when creating model data sets (e.g., list of model
documentation, project data set memoranda).
152.2 Evaluate Approach to Streamline Modeling. The result of Task 152.1 will be a draft
document describing the existing framework for modeling. This framework will be
evaluated and an improved framework and procedures will be suggested. These
improvements will take into account the potential for enhanced StateDMI features (e.g., the
ability to use GIS and preview data from HydroBase), better file organization (e.g., using a
basin directory under which are directories for each model rather than treating model data
sets independently), and model enhancements (e.g., to facilitate developing integration). The
resulting document will be reviewed by State of Colorado staff (and ideally SPDSS
contractors familiar with CDSS, through the coordination tasks), with the intent of approving
an improved set of standards for modeling.
152.3 Update Rio Grande Baseline Data Set and Procedure Manual. The result from Task
152.2 will be a new data flow document and procedure manual (undetermined at this time
whether a single document will suffice). At a minimum, this document will include updated
information about the modeling procedures that are currently being used by the State.
However, it is anticipated that Task 152.2 will identify tangible improvements that can be
made in the modeling process and implemented in SPDSS. The existing RGDSS baseline
data sets for StateCU and StateMod, and associated commands files will be updated to utilize
current DMIs (e.g., StateDMI) with the result being more well-integrated and understandable
data sets, suitable for distribution and maintenance by State of Colorado staff. The updated
data sets will be compared to the RGDSS deliverables and differences noted. The
comparison of results will focus on broad checks; however, minor differences attributable to
changes in HydroBase will not be further investigated. It is expected that this effort would
involve CWCB and DWR staff that are involved with maintaining the baseline data sets, with
the result being more efficient modelers. The updated commands files will be included as
examples in the documentation. The resulting documentation and data sets will serve as a
complete StateCU/StateMod example for modeling in the SPDSS.
152.4 Coordinate MODFLOW Integration into Procedure Manual and DMIs. It is
envisioned that the result of tasks 152.1 - 152.3 will provide useful examples and
documentation for StateCU and StateMod modeling. To facilitate inclusion of MODFLOW
in this information, the contractor will coordinate with State staff that are reviewing
MODFLOW. It is envisioned that State staff will be able to add to the documentation and
examples or that the contractor will perform this activity in a later SPDSS phase.
Deliverables:
152.1 Draft CDSS Data Flow and Procedures Manual document(s) that describe the data flow
between HydroBase, CWRAT/StateView, StateDMI, StateMod, StateCU, and the
groundwater model, and conventions associated with modeling in the CDSS framework.
This document will be evaluated further in Task 152.2.
152.2 Updated Data Flow and Procedures Manual document(s) that identify potential
improvements in the modeling environment. This information will be reviewed by State of
