.,
A significant amount of work has been completed by previous investigators related to
groundwater conditions in the study area, as summarized in the SPDSS Feasibility Study and in
the Groundwater Phase 1, Phase 2 and Phase 3 deliverables. The Phase 4 field data collection
program (Task 39) is a continuation of the Phase 1, 2 and Phase 3 field data collection efforts to
fill data gaps in water level data identified after historical data were collected and analyzed (see
Phase 3: Tasks 34, 39, 41, 42, 43 and 44}. Data obtained from the Phase 4 field data collection
program will be analyzed, added to the existing groundwater databases and maps (under Task 39),
and be used to undertake new analyses and mapping (Tasks 39 and 46). The databases, analyses
and maps also will be used to evaluate the groundwater model of the Denver Basin Region being
developed collaborativelywith the USGS (Task 47), and to support and expand the modeling of
the alluvial aquifer system (Tasks 48 and 50).
All deliverables will be consistent with the DSS design, including use of HydroBase. Deliverables
will use DSS standards for memo formats, report formats, and database design.
Task 39: Collect Water Level Data
Objective:
This task will enhance the State's groundwater level database by continuing the Phase 3
collection of measurements during the fa112006 season after agricultural pumping has ceased and
will add to the understanding of seasonal changes in groundwater levels when compared to the
Colorado Division of Water Resource's (DWR} spring season measurements. This task will also
download and process the data from the alluvial and bedrock SPDSS monitoring wells installed
with pressure transducer and data loggers. This task will help fulfill one of the recommendations
of the SB 96-74 Review Committee.
Approach:
Task 39.1 Water Level Measurements
• Up to 111 bedrock and alluvial wells measured during Phase 3 Task 39 are expected to be
measured during the fall post-irrigation season.
The Groundwater Contractor will obtain verbal permission for site access from the well owner
or resident prior to visiting their well. If contact cannot be made with the well owner to obtain
verbal permission, the well will not be visited and measured, unless a DWR employee
accompanies Contractor staff for undertaking the field activities for such wells. It is assumed
that physical access to the wells will be straightforward, and separate site visits will not be
needed prior to collecting the water level field data.
• The Groundwater Contractor will collect measurements of the depth to water at each site
using methods comparable to those currently used by the DWR during their spring-season
measurements.
