Specific Task Descriptions <br />Task 89 -Mapping Of Current Land Use And Irrigated Field Boundaries <br />Objective: <br />Current land use--including irrigated areas and major crop types-will be mapped using multiple <br />satellite images from the 2000 season and applicable GIS data. Also, general classes of natural <br />vegetation will be mapped for the groundwater modeling areas. <br />Background: <br />Current land use will be mapped in draft for the entire study area during Phase 1 and 2. Review, <br />revision and final map products will be provided for Districts 64, 1, 2 and 3 during Phase 1 and <br />2, and completed for the remaining districts during Phase 3. <br />Approach: <br />89.1 Finalize Methods And Order Imagery. Assess the quality and availability of <br />multispectral, 30m resolution Landsat satellite imagery for use in this task and prepare a list <br />of recommended satellite data for acquisition. Collect and review literature and reports of <br />researchers and previous State contractors engaged in mapping land use and crop types for <br />water resources applications. Conduct discussions or meetings as required in this review. <br />89.2 Obtain and Process Data. Obtain data applicable to current land use as indicated in Table <br />2, including NCWCD irrigated lands and USGS land cover data. The Consumptive Use <br />contractor will provide county agricultural statistics.
