. C~ Q~
allocation method for explicit, aggregated, and ground water only structure over the SPDSS study
period.
Approach:
56.1 Ditch conveyance loss data will be gathered through interviews with larger agricultural
diverters, water commissioners, transfer decrees, and available published information for
the South Platte River basin. During Phase 1, water users with complicated systems,
generally involving reservoirs, were interviewed and information regarding system
agricultural practices was gathered and documented. It is anticipated that up to 10
additional interviews, in addition to those conducted in Phase 1 Task 5, will be conducted
by phone. These intexviews will target larger irrigation and mutual ditch companies not
interviewed previously. Ditch efficiencies used in the development of the 10 large
transfers and augmentation plans reviewed in Task 7 will be included in the analyses. A
recommended methodology to estimate basin-wide conveyance efficiencies will be
developed by comparing conveyance efficiencies to available HydroBase and GIS data
such as underlying soil characteristics, frequency and duration of diversions, canal length,
and canal flow. The selected methodology will be used to assign conveyance efficiencies
to key structures, aggregate structures, and ground water only aggregates represented in the
consumptive use analysis.
56.2 Maximum surface water and ground water application efficiencies will be estimated based
on regional irrigation methods, interviews conducted in Subtask 56.1, review of decrees in
Task 7, and available published information. Maximum application efficiencies will be
determined for flood and sprinkler irrigation methods. Water application methods
regarding the use of surface and ground water will be estimated by region or ditch based on
the interviews.
56.3 The irrigation parameter yearly file (*.ipy) provides irrigation information by structure for
input to StateCU including canal efficiency; flood irrigation efficiency; sprinkler irrigation
efficiency; acreage with ground water supply, acreage irrigated by sprinkler, decreed
pumping volume (rate over 1 month period); and water application method. This input file
will be created using StateDMI for use in the historical crop consumptive use analysis.
Deliverables:
56.1-56.2 A technical memorandum will be developed that documents data collected and
provides recommendations recommended estimates for maximum surface and ground
water application efficiencies based on irrigation method, water application methods
_ _ by ditch or region and over time surface. wat~rLgrQUn~t~,ater_pr_mar3,}~ and~tep-by-
step procedure for estimating conveyance efficiencies for key and aggregate
structures. This technical memorandum is expected to be an appendix in the final
Historic Crop Consumptive Use Report.
56.3 Final irrigation parameter yearly file (*.ipy) input file for use in the developing historic
crop consumptive use in the basin.
Task 57 -Assign Soil Water Holding Capacity to Structures
Background:
Exhibit A-1Page 13
