Comments and Concerns
Boyle worked with four versions of demandts in order to complete the time series
development associated with Subtask 11.7. Version 5 used filled data in calculating monthly
averages via the --fillmonave command instead of using Hydrobase data. This was fixed
with Version 6, but Version 6 first enabled free water rights with a priority date of 1849
with the fwadminnum 0.0 command but then turned the free water right off once the most
senior right was read for the structure. This was fixed with Version 7, and the Version 7
release was used for the San Juan model in this subtask. Estimating diversion data with the
Yampa model confirmed that demandts V7 was unable to aggregate crop water
requirements for the individual explicit structures that make up the aggregated imgation
structures. This was fixed with Version 8, and the Version 8 release was used for the Yampa
model in this subtask.
~ Structures that have negative diversions because they import from another sub-basin in the
model will have to be checked carefully in Task 11.9. First, the positive, exporting structure
and the negative, importing structure must use the same indicator gage. Secondly, the water
right constraint in demandts probably does not work in the negative domain. Thus if the
water right constrains the positive diversion the negative diversion will not match in
magnitude.
~ Structures that import a diversion from outside the model (e.g., Leon Tunnel Import in the
Gunnison model) will require a replacement file to be built after demandts has been used to
fill the diversion record in the exporting basin.
Appendix E E_gg
