64 in determining appropriate augmentation water releases from Prewitt Reservoir. Releases for
augmentation purposes are typically made in "blocks" of water to improve effectiveness of the
replacement supply. When water from the Logan Irrigation District and Iliff Irrigation District
ownership pools in Prewitt Reservoir is used for augmentation purposes, the augmentation
requirement must derive from uses within those districts. Augmentation water provided through
Morgan Prewitt Reservoir Company ownership in the reservoir may be used as a replacement
source for augmentation needs outside of any district.
Requests for Prewitt Reservoir releases have historically been somewhat sporadic due to the
multiple ditches and augmentation plans served by the reservoir. In some years, no requests
have been made for reservoir water.
The Prewitt Manager does not require a minimum release and will provide any amount of water
that is called for. The Manager is responsible for measurements in the outlet canal and provides
this information to the Water Commissioner in Water District 64 and to the NCWCD for use in
accounting required under various augmentation plans. In accounting for diversions by other
ditches, the Water Commissioner will explicitly note water that is credited to releases from
Prewitt Reservoir.
Irrigation water is not delivered directly from the outlet canal. Water from Prewitt Reservoir that
is released to the South Platte Ditch supplements the ditch's direct flow supply to irrigate
approximately 5,700 acres lying to the north and east of the reservoir.
Prewitt Reservoir.doc Page 5 of 15
