Includes rights to divert
from Pawnee Creek (540 cfs) and Cedar Creek (540 cfs). Both creeks discharge directly into
the reservoir.
Reservoir Accounts: All of the storage water in North Sterling Reservoir and all of the direct
flow water diverted through the North Sterling Inlet Canal is used for irrigation on lands
within the District. Land owners in the District are entitled to receive apro-rata annual
allotment of water for each "bonded" acre within the District. Historically, water
deliveries by the District have averaged 1.55 acre-feet per acre (past 20-year average).
Ground Water Rights
Most groundwater wells within the District provide domestic supplies. Several of the farms
within the District also have wells that are decreed for irrigation use. Well usage provides a
small supplemental irrigation supply of approximately 1,000 acre-feet per year District-wide.
Transbasin Water
The District is within the boundaries of the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District. As
such, water made available through the Colorado-Big Thompson (C-BT) Project may be used on
North Sterling Irrigation District lands. Currently no C-BT water is delivered to the District.
Administration
Administration of the water rights associated with North Sterling Reservoir involves interaction
with both Water District 1 and 64. In addition to contact with Water Commissioners in both
Water Districts, the District is in frequent discussion with the Division 1 Engineer to determine
upstream conditions that may affect the reservoir's operation.
North Sterling Irrigation District.doc Page 9 of 11
