NPIC uses its C-BT units
extensively for exchange in an effort to keep its water in the North Fork Poudre System. NPIC
also owns stock in the South Side Ditches including Taylor Gill Ditch, Larimer County #2 Ditch,
and Arthur Ditch.
The original NPIC System was used exclusively for the delivery of irrigation water. With the
acquisition of C-BT units in 1952, the System was expanded to include municipal and industrial
uses associated with C-BT water. The multi-use of NPIC water as a result of acquisition of C-
BT units is hereafter referred to as M&I water. Currently, 70 percent of NPIC stock is owned by
municipalities and individual municipal water districts including the towns of Fort Collins,
Greeley, Ault, Nunn, Eaton, Windsor, and Severance and the Tri-Districts rural domestic water
suppliers for Fort Collins -Loveland Water District, East Larimer County Water District, and
North Weld County Water District. Of the remaining 30 percent, approximately 14 percent is
owned by farmers irrigating cash crops and 16 percent is owned by ranchette farmers or "hobby
farmers." Hobby farmers are those farmers owning a minimum of 5 acres, who typically use
NorthPoudreMemo.doc 4 of 29
