Diversion Measurement Device:
DWR WDID: 0304600
USGS ID: 06747000 -Laramie Poudre Tunnel near Chambers Lake
Datum: 8,565 feet above sea level NGVD29
Ditch Outlet: 10 foot Parshall flume equipped with Stevens recorder and satellite linked
monitoring system.
Conveyance Efficiency: The Tunnel is mostly rock lined.
HydroBase Data: Diversions are reported as continuously monitored streamflow records and as
administrative records. Continuously monitored streamflow records are available for
water year 1929 through 2002 for Station 06747000. Administrative records are
available for water year 1955 through 2002 for Structure 0304600. Both continuously
monitored streamflow records and administrative records are available on a daily and
monthly basis through Colorado DWR HydroBase. In addition, George Varra, Water
Commissioner for Division 3, also keeps monthly diversion records for the Laramie
Poudre Tunnel in a spreadsheet with other transbasin diversion records.
Available diversion data for Laramie Poudre Tunnel was reviewed and compared to
identify the best available data source (shown of Figure 2). The preferred set of data
identified for Laramie Poudre Tunnel was the continuously monitored streamflow gage
Station 06747000. When compared to the other available information sources, the
streamflow data at Station 06747000 displayed the following characteristics:
• The longest period of record,
• The most complete set of data prior to and throughout the period of study,
• Corresponding monthly and daily diversion data available, and
• Continues to be operated as a recording device through present.
LaramiePoudreTunnel.doc 5 of 10
