a major slide in 1914, at which point the reserv oir was restricted to approximately 21,000 ac-ft.
The dam face was repaired but suffered another ma jor slide in 1916, at which point the reservoir
was restricted to approximately 10,500 ac-ft. Re pairs were again made in 1922 and storage
restrictions varied un til 1963. The Standley Lake Reservoi r embankment was enlarged in 1963
by the City of Westminster. The enlargement provided an additional 20,000 ac-ft of storage
capacity for a total of about 43,000 ac-ft. Follo wing the enlargement, storage restrictions
continued to limit the available stor age due to spillway concerns.
New outlet works and a spillway were
constructed in 2004 a ssociation with the
Standley Lake Dam Improvement Project.
The new spillway consists of a single
large concrete weir and stilling basin,
with additional downstream drop
structures and riprap for energy
dissipation. The new spillway can pass
approximately 60,000 cfs, equal to the
estimated Probable Maximum Flood.
Share holders that currently have
ownership in either the reservoir or the
canal network within the FRICO Standley
Standley Lake
htt p :// p ro j ects.ch2m.com/Standle y Public/default.as p
Lake Division include FRICO and the
Cities of Westminster, Northglenn, and Thornt on.
