OPERATI O NAL INF O RMATION
Irrigation Season
All of the FRICO – Milton irrigation dem a nds ar e located below the reservoir. During the
irrigation season, FRICO–Milton irrigation dem a nds are m e t using releas es from Milton
Lake. W a te r can be released from Barr Lake to the Beebe Canal via the West Burlin gton
Extension D itch in conjunction with or inde pendent of releases to the Speer and W e st
Burlington and via the N e res Canal in conjuncti on with or independent of deliveries from
Barr to the Neres or East Burlington Extensi on D itch. Throughout the irrigation season, all
flows are diverted from the Beebe C a nal in to the East Neres Canal. Flo w s accruing to the
Beebe Canal below the E a st Neres b i furcation m a y be diverted into Milton Lake. Diversions
to Beebe Canal are not m easured but estim a ted by the ditch rider to be about 10 – 15 cfs at
Barr Lake to obtain 20 – 25 cfs at the East Neres headgate.
Non-Irrigation Season
During the non-irrigation season, seepage and re turn flows from Beebe Canal accrue to
Milton L a ke. Typical seepage wa ter flow collected in Beebe Ca nal near the toe of Barr Lake
is estim a ted at 3 to 5 cfs and increases to 5 to 8 cf s at Piccadilly Road. The water is delivered
to a num ber of s m all reservoi rs located between Barr Lake and Milton L a ke, with any
rem a ining water delivered to Milton Lake. The Bowles Seep and East Neres headg a tes
rem a in closed. The flow at Milton L a ke is estim ated to be around 10 – 15 cfs. A water
balance analysis com p leted by FRICO shows that on average, around 6,300 acre-feet per
year flows from the Beebe Canal to Milton Reservoir, with around 5,500 acre-feet occurring
during the months of October through April.
Reservoir Accounts:
There are 1647.837 shares in Milton La ke with delivery averaging around
7.5 acre-feet per share. Shares under this reservoir have a be tter yield than shares under
the Barr Lak e System , however the s y stem is still water shor t.
Where to find more informatio n
The W a t e r District 2 Meeting Notes prepared for SPDSS Task 3 – Identify Key Diversion
Structures contain additional information on ditch and reservoir ope r a tio n s within this
water district.
The FRICO–Barr System SPDSS Opera ting Mem o randum contains a ddition a l
inform ation on Beebe Canal.
The Irrig a ted Acre ag e Assessm ent GIS Cove rage prepare d for SPDSS displays the
boundary of the FRICO service area.
