SPDSS Memorandum <br />Final <br />To: <br />Ray Alvarado and Ray Bennett <br />From: <br />LRE, Beorn Courtney and Erin W ilson <br />Subject: <br />Task 5 - Key Structure Operating Me m o randum – FRICO–Milton L a ke Division <br />Date: <br />March 3, 2005 <br />INTRODUCTION <br />One of the Task 5 objectives is to: <br />Develop and document an understan ding of th e o p erations o f key wate r use facilities in <br />the basin in order to fa cilita te consu m pti ve use modeling an d to support selected data <br />needs for m odeling bein g done by other c ontractors. This un derstanding will be <br />developed th rough interviews with D W R pe rsonn el, opera tors of large can a l and <br />reservoir systems, and representa tives of federal facilities. <br />Types of key water use facilities include di version structures, transm ountain diversions, <br />reservo i rs, a nd reservo i r system s. <br />Key diversion structures, identi fied as part of Task 3, incl ude structures representing 85 <br />percent of net decreed rights, structures di verting greater than 1,000 acre-feet per year, <br />and structures of adm i nistrative im portance. <br />Key transmountain diversions, identified as part of Task 4, include th ose structures that <br />transport non-native water from another ba sin into the South Pl atte River basin. <br />Key reservoirs, identified as pa rt of Task 5, include reservoi rs or reservo i r sys t em s with <br />greater than 10,000 acre-feet cap acity and/or reservoirs th at should be included in <br />potential future m odeling efforts due to th eir im pact on basin ope rations.
