SECTIONONE
Introduction
Task 2 - Laboratory Program
The laboratory program was performed to verify test results presented in the 2003 Study and
provide data for identifying the cause of the embankment seepage. The laboratory program was
performed for the five borings along the dam crest not for the two borings located along the dam
toe.
The laboratory testing included index properties and shear strength testing. Index property
testing were used to classify the samples according to the Unified Soil Classification System and
included water contents and densities, percent passing the #200 sieve (fines content), Atterberg
Limiis, and hydrometer analyses.
Task 3 - Ouflet lnspection
The north and east outlet pipes were inspected with a video camera. The inspection was taped
and stored on a DVD for future use. URS prepared a summary of the condition of the pipes.
Task 4- 2003 Feasibility Sfudy Updafe
URS evaluated the alternatives presented in the 2003 Study along with a maintenance alternative
that was developed for this study to address the project goals. URS developed feasibility layout
drawings to enable the estimation of the construction cost of the maintenance alternative.
Quantity takeoffs were performed for the required items. URS presented the results and
recommendations in this study.
' '~,,5 1-2
