SECTfONTHREE
Back9round Information
SDIC has 400 shares which are presently owned by 164 stockholders. Brands are one of these
stockholders. Of the 400 shares, 323.5 shares are used for agricultural purposes, 60 shares are
used for municipal purposes, and 16.5 shares are used for commercial purposes. The ownership
of the shares is presented in Appendix E.
The Supply Ditch has historically irrigated 8,500 acres of land. The wa#er source for SDIC's
water rights is the Saint Vrain Creek. SDIC has a direct flow decree for 92.2 cfs. Water Rights
information is presented in Appendix E. SDIC also owns 50.16% interest in Beaver Paxk
Reservoir. Table 3-i presents Beaver Park Reservoir storage decrees.
Table 3-1
Beaver Park Reservoir Decrees
Relative Priority Decree Amount in Acre-Feet Appropriation Data
41 888 June 30, 1892
58 960 January 21, 1902
70 336 September 20, 1905
Knouth Reservoir has an original storage decree of 37_5 AF and two conditional decrees for 73.2
AF and 541.25 AF for a total of 652 AF.
A previous analysis was conducted by Rocky Mountain Consultants (RMS) for the City of
Longmont to determine the yield of the system. The foilowing is an excerpt from that study
which provides an accounting of the water use and yields.
"An analysis of the yields of the Supply Ditch, including both direct flow and storage decrees,
indicates that on an average basis, this system will yield 0.60 AF of water per acre of land. For
the reservoir decrees, it is found that this system will yield 0.15 AF per acre of land irrigated. On
a per share basis, this computes to be 12.82 AF of water per share on an average basis, and 0.63
AF per share on a safe yield basis."
This is based on an analysis of 20 years of recorded from 1949 to 1968 of the diversions made by
SDIC with the safe yield determined using the year 1954 which was the lowest diversion of
record, In 1954 a total of 250 AF of water was diverted through the Supply Ditch with an
additional 743 AF provided from Beaver Park Reservoir.
~ ~S 3-4
