HydroBase Data
The monthly data over the 1950-present period of record in HydroBase pertaining to Spinney
Mtn Reservoir include the following:
Monthly Content Record (see Figure 4)
Figure 4
Spinney Mtn Reservoir
Monthly Contents
60000 ~ ~~ --
50000 -
40000 II
30000
s
20000
10000 -
Years (Beginning of Water Year on Grid Line)
Contents typically recorded in HydroBase at the start, middle or end of month. Missing
HydroBase content records for August, 1986 and from November, 1986 through October, 1987
were provided by Aurora. These data have been forwarded to the DWR database administrator
for inclusion into HydroBase.
4) Aurora Intake at Strontia Springs Reservoir (Structure ID 0801001)
Aurora takes delivery of its surface water sources through the Aurora Intake, located at Strontia
Springs Reservoir (Structure ID 0803983). Water diverted through the Aurora Intake
subsequently passes into the Rampart Pipeline and then to further storage and treatment facilities
of Aurora. A diversion structure on the South Platte River was constructed in the late 1960s and
subsequently was moved a short distance to an intake tower at Strontia Springs in 1983.
Capacity of the Aurora Intake is reported at 230 cfs with capacity of various portions of the
conveyance structure from that point to Rampart Reservoir estimated at 210-250 cfs. The
capacity of two pipelines from Rampart Reservoir to meet the Aurora demand is estimated at 113
cfs (combined).
Strontia Springs Reservoir is an equalizing reservoir located approximately six and one half
miles upstream of the mouth of Waterton Canyon on the South Platte River. The Strontia
Springs dam was completed in 1983 as part of Denver Water's Foothills Project. Strontia
Springs Reservoir is principally owned and operated by Denver Water. Aurora has a contract for
the use of 700 ac-ft of capacity in the reservoir and operates the Aurora Intake separate from
Denver Water operations.
