USGS ID: ADANETCO -Adams Tunnel at East Portal -Computed Flow (October
1996 -present)
Datum: 8,250.0 feet above sea level NGVD29
Tunnel Outlet: 10 foot Parshall flume equipped with an A35 Stephens recorder and
satellite linked monitoring system (Parshall flume, measurement recording device, and
associated concrete weir housed inside a large wooden structure constructed to protect
system from inclement weather and vandalism).
Conveyance Efficiency: The Tunnel is lined with aone-foot thick concrete lining.
HydroBase Data: Diversions for Adams Tunnel are reported as continuously monitored
streamflow records and as administrative records by Colorado DWR.
• Continuously monitored streamflow data for Station 09013000 are available for daily
and monthly diversions from prior to 1950 through September 1996.
• Continuously monitored streamflow data for Station ADANETCO is available from
October 1996 through present. Administrative data for Structure 5104634 are
available for daily and monthly diversions for 1976 through 2002.
• Both continuously monitored streamflow data and administrative data are available
through Colorado DWR HydroBase.
• Data provided by NCWCD are available for monthly diversions from 1976 through
2002.
Available diversion data for Adams Tunnel was reviewed and compared to identify the
best available data source (shown in Figure 2). The preferred set of data identified for
Adams Tunnel was a combination of the continuously monitored streamflow data for
Stations 09013000 and ADANETCO. When compared to the other available information
sources, the streamflow data at Stations 09013000 and ADANETCO displayed the
following characteristics:
• The longest period of record,
• The most complete set of data prior to and throughout the period of study,
• Corresponding monthly and daily diversion data available, and
• Continues to be operated as a recording device through present.
AdamsTunnel.doc 5 of 9
