Streamflow Filling Results for the Big Dry Creek
Near Fort Lupton (06720990) Gage
Recommendations
TSTooI and MSM can both be used to fill missing streamflow data. The only significant
advantage MSM has over TSTooI is its ability to automatically select a variable number of
independent gages. Comparison of filled streamflow data using TSTooI and MSM shows that
similar results can be produced using one independent gage with TSTooI as opposed to using
several independent gages selected by MSM The statistical results may be slightly better with
MSM using multiple independent gages. However, TSTooI allows data to be pulled directly
from HydroBase, both linear and logarithmic data transformations are available, and the
historical data and filled results can be viewed graphically. Additionally, TSTooI is continuously
maintained by the State and is compatible with the other CDSS Data Management Interfaces,
whereas MSM is not.
Based on these findings, TSTooI should be used to fill missing streamflow records and other
hydrologic data sets. The following TSTooI enhancements are recommended to fully replace the
MSM functionality:
Task2.doc 6 of 10
