<br />Project Sponsor <br /> <br />The G.D.R.C. is a mutual ditch and reservoir company located in Delta County and <br />registered in the State of Colorado as a non-profit corporation. There are 81 <br />shareholders and 700 shares of capital stock. G.D.R.C. has the power to set <br />assessments to be paid by the shareholders, the power to cut ofT water deliveries to <br />shareholders that fail to pay their assessments and the power to otTer stock for sale <br />in order to pay delinquent assessments. <br /> <br />Project Service Area and Facilities <br /> <br />The G.D.R.C. owns and operates 6 storage reservoirs and 3 inactive reservoir <br />easements. The reservoirs are situated within the Grand Mesa National Forest, on <br />land managed by the U.S. Forest Service. The 7 mile long Granby Ditch begins on <br />Forest Service land but after % mile it enters and remains on private land. <br /> <br />The service area today can be said to be anywhere in the Surface Creek area by <br />exchange the stored water can be delivered to any Ditch. The flow decrees are <br />limited to the ground served by the Granby Ditch. Acreage irrigated with G.D.R.C. <br />water is primarily used on orchards, hay and feed crops. <br /> <br />Hydrology and Water Rights <br /> <br />Granby #12 is a headwaters reservoir and is filled by snow melt and seasonal <br />springs. It has an H31 priority with an appropriation date of 8/06/1910 and a decree <br />of 813.99 acre feet from Dirty George Creek. In addition Granby #12 Ditch 15 CFS <br />priority J213 appropriation date 7/22/1935 source the main stem of Dirty George <br />Creek also fills the reservoir. <br /> <br />Project Description and Alternatives <br /> <br />The purpose of this project is to make repairs and modifications necessary to retain <br />full storage at Granby #12 GDRC is in danger of losing some of our water rights if <br />repairs are not made. Rehabilitation of the reservoir to the full storage capacity will <br />enable GDRC to better meet the needs of our shareholders especially during the dry <br />years. Two alternatives were considered. <br /> <br />1. Do nothing <br />2. Rehabilitate the dam <br /> <br />Alternative #1 was considered unacceptable because it would mean GDRC would <br />eventually relinquish valuable storage rights. <br /> <br />Alternative #2 was selected because it will allow GDRC to retain full storage rights <br />at a reasonable cost. <br />
