Concerns
None
Comments and Additional Concerns
As the complexity of the CDSS and StateMod system increases, additional time and resources are
required to ensure that all of the software and data that work together to build the StateMod input
files are synchronized, both during development and when delivered to users. The latest
enhancements to CDSS, HydroBase, and StateMod to support the development of RGDSS have
required changes to the structure of HydroBase, changes to the DMIs, the addition of new
preprocessing utilities, and additional input files.
Managing the dynamic nature of the CDSS tools can be very challenging when multiple
contractors as well as the State are simultaneously working on and changing various components
of the CDSS system. A structured system or protocol for organizing and tracking all the various
versions of the multiple CDSS software components and databases is one way to meet this
challenge. There are several industry-accepted tools on the market that aid in this effort, e.g. MS
Visual Source Safe. Moving to this level of software system development has significant
overhead costs. However, they must be balanced against the benefit of reducing the risk of future
software/data incompatibilities that can generate errors in the results of the CDSS system.
Attachments
None
C:Acdss\TaskS-5.doc StateMod Enhancements August 15, 2000 -Page 8 of 8
