Data from 1997 and 1998.
C. Estimates based on average of 300 gpd per capita (average of actual data from six municipalities).
As shown, estimated total water use for those municipalities listed in Table 2 is approximately
9,031 acre-feet per year (1997/1998). If a 300 gpd per capita average water use rate is used for
the entire San Luis Valley population, total domestic and municipal water use can be estimated at
approximately 15,100 acre-feet per year at 1997 populations.
Industrial Water Use and Sources
Municipalities provide water for a variety of purposes including residential, commercial,
recreational (park or open area irrigation) and some types of industrial uses. Other industrial uses
supply their own water from independent sources. In the San Luis Valley, these industrial uses
include:
• Fish Hatcheries (Colorado Division of Wildlife);
• Rakhra Mushroom Farm;
• Colorado Alligator Farm; and
• Mining (Summitville, Battle Mountain and Manville-Perlite).
C:Acdss\M&I Use.doc M&I Water Uses July 8, 1999 -Page 4 of 5
