Have had four meetings; goal to complete map by July 2008; look at site <br />specific quantifications by Fall 2008; results and implementation from there <br />out; <br />Map of our priorities hope to be complete by July 2008. <br />Goals: 1)Overview of non-consumptive needs assessment and 2) to share <br />progress to date and to ask for feedback and ask for ideas on direction and <br />how roundtable wants to be engaged <br />Terms: <br />1) Attribute: One of the enviromnental or recreational features <br />2) Hydrologic unit: Hydrological classification used to organize attributes <br />3) GIS system being utilized. <br />1) CO Water for the 21'`t Century Act includes non-consumptive needs as <br />core process as per the statute; also important to do this study because this <br />assessment will provide an objective and scientific basis to look at priority <br />streams and water-related needs; can use this info to make better decisions <br />about water uses for friture; this can be a tool we can use along with <br />consumptive water needs; therefore, focus has to do with developing new <br />water supplies and for future projects to meet these needs; objective set of <br />tools to thii~l{ about what these needs are. <br />2) Maps will be developed that will help identify priorities; what is important <br />to this roundtable to protect; what water needs do these need; look at water <br />flows for these needs; and how these merge with projects so that we la7ow <br />what needs to be done to protect these projects. <br />3) Non consumptive needs is NOT: <br />--will not identify all streams and rivers as important; goal is to focus on <br />those sub-set of water ways that are important; which ones might not be as <br />important; focusing and prioritizing is important; <br />--does not dictate management actions; <br />--does not create water right for the environment; <br />4) RE: process for developing assessment: flow chart that all basin <br />roundtables are using: <br />1) What are the attributes; 2) what are the priorities; 3) if priorities are <br />lalowngo to implementation or look at flow requirements (for boating, <br />fisheries, etc)-can do regional scale /water shed scale water <br />quantification; site-specific water quantifications (how much water needed <br />to sustain that attribute) -all of this will lead to what these needs are and <br />to develop multipurpose projects <br />Attributes: Environmental and Recreation Attributes <br />Environmental: Significant riparian, water fowl habitats threatened or <br />endangered species, fisheries such as gold metal <br />Recreation Attributes: greenways (Cherry Creek and South Platte), fishing, <br />riparian wild life viewing and boating (kayaking, etc) <br />5 <br />
