Have had four meetings; goal to complete map by July 2008; look at site
specific quantifications by Fall 2008; results and implementation from there
out;
Map of our priorities hope to be complete by July 2008.
Goals: 1)Overview of non-consumptive needs assessment and 2) to share
progress to date and to ask for feedback and ask for ideas on direction and
how roundtable wants to be engaged
Terms:
1) Attribute: One of the enviromnental or recreational features
2) Hydrologic unit: Hydrological classification used to organize attributes
3) GIS system being utilized.
1) CO Water for the 21'`t Century Act includes non-consumptive needs as
core process as per the statute; also important to do this study because this
assessment will provide an objective and scientific basis to look at priority
streams and water-related needs; can use this info to make better decisions
about water uses for friture; this can be a tool we can use along with
consumptive water needs; therefore, focus has to do with developing new
water supplies and for future projects to meet these needs; objective set of
tools to thii~l{ about what these needs are.
2) Maps will be developed that will help identify priorities; what is important
to this roundtable to protect; what water needs do these need; look at water
flows for these needs; and how these merge with projects so that we la7ow
what needs to be done to protect these projects.
3) Non consumptive needs is NOT:
--will not identify all streams and rivers as important; goal is to focus on
those sub-set of water ways that are important; which ones might not be as
important; focusing and prioritizing is important;
--does not dictate management actions;
--does not create water right for the environment;
4) RE: process for developing assessment: flow chart that all basin
roundtables are using:
1) What are the attributes; 2) what are the priorities; 3) if priorities are
lalowngo to implementation or look at flow requirements (for boating,
fisheries, etc)-can do regional scale /water shed scale water
quantification; site-specific water quantifications (how much water needed
to sustain that attribute) -all of this will lead to what these needs are and
to develop multipurpose projects
Attributes: Environmental and Recreation Attributes
Environmental: Significant riparian, water fowl habitats threatened or
endangered species, fisheries such as gold metal
Recreation Attributes: greenways (Cherry Creek and South Platte), fishing,
riparian wild life viewing and boating (kayaking, etc)
5
