SPDSS Groundwater Technical Peer Review Committee Meeting Minutes
February 13, 2007
Page 6
d. Model components: uses latest download of MODFLOW2000; simulation of system
components; uses SPDSS tools to develop model inputs.
e. Task 50 -Data Centered Modeling
i. Advantages: establish links between data sources (HydroBase, GIS, etc.) and numerical
model (MODFLOW); allows rapid updates of numerical model when underlying data
changes, simulation time frame changes, additional process incorporated.
ii. Enhancement of data processes
1. SPDSS Groundwater Database -includes additional data not stored in HydroBase.
2. SPDSS Groundwater Geodatabase -spatial data populated from HydroBase and SPDSS
database.
3. Streamflow Routing (SFR) Development
4. DMI Modification -Two existing preprocessors enhanced; allows use of new
MODFLOW package (MNW).
5. Model GUI Procedures.
iii. Model enhancement conclusions
1. Data centered modeling process -Provides flexibility to easily update model when
underlying data changes; all relevant data stored in HydroBase and SPDSS groundwater
database, data centered process. Many procedures automated -SFR, MNW packages.
Additional procedures developed -Geodatabase refresh, model grid activation.
£ Model Discussion
i. Question: Is it possible to obtain a list of modeling purposes and the components of the
conceptual model for the alluvial aquifer?
Response: These will be included in the Task 48 report which is currently being prepared.
ii. Question: Would simulated ditches and gravel quarries be lined?
Response: This issue will be looked at during Phase 4 when these items are input into the
model.
iii. Question: How will streambed conductance be determined?
Response: From the Task 34 work and through calibration.
iv. Question: What are the calibration targets, and will there be ongoing calibration as new data
is found?
Response: Respectively, water levels, stream fluxes and yes.
v. Question: Is there a listing of all SPDSS tasks available?
Response: This information is available on CDSS website.
