After completing mapping the lateral extent of the riparian phreatophyte cover, the <br />resulting large polygon was divided into reaches for tabulation and comparison of the <br />results. Using stream gauge and diversion points, the South Platte River mainstem was <br />divided into 13 reaches. The largest tributary, the Cache la Poudre River, was divided <br />into three reaches, while the drainages with phreatophyte vegetation in six other smaller <br />tributaries were represented separately. The phreatophyte areas within tributaries were <br />not segmented based on diversions, rather, the area of each tributary was kept as <br />contiguous as possible, with divisions occurring only where streamside phreatophyte <br />vegetation was interrupted or absent for long stretches. These stream reaches are <br />illustrated on Figure 7 with the reaches described in Table 2. <br />Figure 7.
