by comparing 100 percent of the entered data to the original hard copy data. Data
received in electronic format from sources other than HydroBase were checked for data
importation accuracy by manual verification of 10-percent of the values imported into a
HydroBase-compatible table against the original electronic source data. If errors in the
data entry were found, the error was corrected in the spreadsheet. The spreadsheet was
then uploaded into the SPDSS database. This procedure was used to assure quality for
all data that was added to the SPDSS database (that included data provided from
HydroBase) before analyses were performed.
3.0 Results
The hydraulic conductivity (K), storage coefficient (S) and specific yield (Sy) for of each
the bedrock aquifers in the Denver Basin Region are discussed in this section. The
aquifer property data have different levels of confidence based on the method of
collection. As discussed in Section 1.1, these data collection methods include aquifer
pumping tests, specific capacity tests and laboratory tests. To assist in interpreting the
results, the test data are reported on the figures using different symbol types. Due to the
large number and localized variation in data caused by aquifer heterogeneity, the K data
are presented graphically as individual postings, with data falling in specified quartile
ranges depicted by different color-coded symbols.
This TM is intended to analyze and present raw field data. It is fully understood some
of the data points presented here, in particular data obtained from specific capacity and
lab test results, may appear anomalous compared to what can realistically be expected
from the Denver Basin's bedrock aquifers. These data were included in the analysis
herein because they could not be screened by the methods presented in Section 1.2.2.
As described in Section 1.2.5 each quartile grouping of K data presented in the following
sections contains an even number of data points based on the numeric range of the
aquifer property values. The data groupings are defined with blue representing the 75th
percentile (the highest 25 percent of the values), green representing the 75th to 50th
percentile values, orange representing the 50th to 25th percentile, and red representing
the lowest 25th percentile of data by property value. The numeric ranges in K values for
each aquifer are different since the distribution of results differs for each aquifer.
The hydraulic conductivity, specific yield and storage coefficient statistical data for each
aquifer are summarized in Tables 4 through 6, respectively; the number of test data
points, quartile ranges, median and average values are provided for each aquifer. The
detailed results for these aquifer properties are discussed in Sections 3.1 through 3.3,
respectively. Conclusions derived from the analyses presented below are provided in
Section 4. All data will also be provided to the DWR in ArcGIS shapefiles as part of this
TM.
SPDSS Phase 2 Task 43.2 TM -Final 16
2/ 13/ 2006
