Colorado River Water Conservation District
Hydro - Climate Studies and Predictions
• A written report outlining the results and a preliminary
`guideline' for usage. In addition a presentation of the
results, preferably to be presented at the June 2007 CWCB
board meeting.
*Note: The use of 90F and 0.10" for meteorological parameters for
defusing demand may be changed on a basin and /or sub -basin basis
based on the climatology of the basin /sub - basin.
Task B: Development of the hydro - climate indices -
basin response relationships on a multi - seasonal
(two -year) basis.
/ Supply: Relate the amount of basin average WY precipitation and the April to
September volume runoff into the basins to the following hydro - climate indices on
two -year averages. These relationships will be calculated for the Dolores -San Juan,
Rio Grande and Arkansas basins as well as the basins and specific sub - basins for the
Colorado, Gunnison, and Yampa--White River basins inside the state of Colorado.:
• Alultivariate ENSO Index (MEI) for the periods of two -year averages
concurrent and leading modes with the observed precipitation /streamflow
conditions.
• Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) for similar periods as 1\1EI,
• North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) for similar periods as MEI,
• Southern Oscillation Index (SOI) for similar periods as I\IEI
• Atlantic Multi- decadal Oscillation (AT\10) for similar periods as 1\lEI
Deliverables:
• Defined quantitative relationships between the HCI's and
two -year basin average precipitation for specific time periods
(Oct -Dec, Oct -filar, Apr -Jun and Jul -Sep). This data will be
provided in a Microsoft Excel format.
• Defined quantitative relationships between the HCI's and
the two -year basin volumes of Apr -Sept. runoff. This data
will be provided in a 1\licrosoft Excel format.
• A written report outlining the results and a preliminary
guideline' for usage. In addition a presentation of the
results, preferably to be presented at the June 2007 CWCB
board meeting.
CWCB will assist in procuring naturalized flows from some of these basins to be
coordinated with HDR.
Demand: Relate the average basin temperature and number of days with high
temperatures > 90F* (for select stations) for April to September, the monthly basin
precipitation values, and number of days per month with > 0.10 "* precipitation for
HDR Page 3
