discussed in Section 1.0 and from municipal and consultant contacts established during SPDSS
Phase 2 Task 37. Task 37 included the solicitation of aquifer pumping tests from entities and
also the completion of new aquifer pumping tests. The candidate list was evaluated using the
criteria listed above. Four wells, each completed in one of the principal Denver Basin bedrock
aquifers, were selected and presented to the State for their approval. Verification that each well
was completed in only one aquifer was accomplished by comparing the construction reports to
the SPDSS Phase 2 bedrock aquifer configuration data. The four wells are located northeast of
Castle Rock at the Castle Oaks 3 (C03) and Castle Oaks 6 (C06) well fields, as shown in Figure
4. Each of these well fields is owned by a private entity. The well names and the aquifers they
are completed in are as follows:
o C03-LTDW (Lower Dawson Aquifer)
o C03-TKD (Denver Aquifer)
o C03-KLF (Laramie-Fox Hills Aquifer)
o C06-KA (Arapahoe Aquifer)
A site visit was performed to evaluate the well according to the above criteria and to measure
the depth to water at each well. Following the site visit, final approval was given by the State
SPDSS project team to instrument the wells with data loggers. A locking well cap was designed
and built for each well to allow the data logger and its associated cable to be secured inside the
well.
2.2 Installation of Monitoring Equipment
On May 2, 2006, non-barometric compensating data loggers were installed in the wells and
programmed to collect water level readings on hourly intervals. Additionally, to allow for
compensation for barometric pressure changes on the water levels, separate barometric
pressure transducers and data loggers were installed in the C03-LTDW and C06-KA wells.
(Note: the data loggers discussed in Section 1.2 are barometric compensating data loggers;
therefore, a barometric pressure transducer and data logger is not needed for those sites).Table
2 presents the initial depth to groundwater, date of measurement, length of cable, and the
approximate depth of the data logger.
Table 2: Bedrock Monitoring Wells Details

Well Identifier
Date Measured Depth to Groundwater
(ft bgs) Depth to Data logger
(ft bgs)
C03-LTDW 5/2/06 275.6 481
C03-TKD 5/2/06 561.9 781
C03-KLF 5/2/06 819.9 1382
C06-KA 5/2/06 1081.1 1682
ft bgs- feet below ground surface
SPDSS Phase 3 Task 39 Technical Memarandum -Final 10
09/27/2006
