Evaluation of Goal Achievement
Thus far, only the first part of the project goal has been achieved. There is now a public
recreational area that enables visitors and townspeople to coiulect with the North Fork of
the Gunnison River. The other two parts of the goal for this project have been postponed
until further work can be accomplished with the Army Corps of Engineers.
Colorado Watershed Protection Fund Priorities:
The project is a cooperative community endeavor that meets the
need for public access along the North Fork of the Guiulison
River. This will help to connect residents, visitors, and students
to our riparian area, as well as deter trespassing on private
property by people who want to access the river. Watershed
education will be provided in the form of educational kiosks,
interpretive signs, and an outdoor classroom setting. This will
benefit park visitors, students from nearby schools, and
volunteers that help with weed removal and park maintenance.
The park is also expected to bolster the local economy by
promoting boating and fishing on the North Forlc, bringing in
dollars during spring, a typically slow tourist season.
MONITORING

'~` ` x~k.
~~

,,
~=

:; ,~
€~

The rze~nly constrzrcted
Uocrt rcrnz~
The success of the project will be measured by tracking park visitors, as well as anecdotal
stories from the conu7luiuty. The Association will continue to monitor the site to assess
effectiveness of the project. Maintenance to the site is anticipated to be nunimal, and will
be undertaken by volunteers organized by the Association each spring.
COORDINATION EFFORTS
NFRIA has received contributions from a diverse group of partners for this project:
Source of Funds
Col.
