March 3, 2008 <br />At the end of the meeting, Mike Berry suggested a presentation on dust on snow, by Chris Landry <br />from the Snow and Avalanche Study Center in Silverton. Mike said he would contact Chris to try <br />and setup this presentation. <br />Report from the Black Canyon Quantification Committee <br />John McClow reported that negotiations were at the same level as a month ago, and progress was <br />slow. There were several meetings scheduled for March and April. <br />1. Fruitland Ditch Company <br />Danny Todd of Fruitland Ditch Company presented information regarding a future <br />application for funding. <br />2. Letter from Eastern Slope Basin Roundtables <br />The Roundtable members reviewed and discussed a letter received from the South Platte, <br />Arkansas and Metro Basin Roundtables expressing their desire to work with all basin <br />roundtables to develop and discuss water resource management options. <br />The River District had requested a joint response to the letter. Dennis Steckel made a motion <br />to have the River District draft a letter of response. Ron Shaver seconded, however, the <br />meeting was still one member short of a quorum, so the motion was dropped. <br />Michelle Pierce suggested that the River District draft a letter for Gunnison Basin <br />Roundtable approval. The Roundtable members were in agreement with this idea. <br />3. Presentation to Eastern Slope Basin Roundtables <br />The Communications Committee discussed the results of meetings with the South Platte <br />Basin and the Arkansas Basin Roundtables. The Committee felt that the visits went well, and <br />that meeting with the smaller groups gave better opportunity for discussion. It was generally <br />felt that the Arkansas Basin Roundtable was more receptive and understanding than the <br />South Platte Basin Roundtable to what the Committee presentation. <br />Mike Berry mentioned the Arkansas Basin's method for identifying their non-consumptive <br />uses by category as opposed to species seemed to make more sense. Michelle Pierce said <br />that they used layered maps for each attribute to create one overall map. The Committee <br />urged the GBRT Non-consumptive Needs Committee to contact the Arkansas and review <br />their strategy. <br />Hugh Sanburg thanked the Committee and John McClow for a very effective presentation. <br />The next meeting would be with the Metro Basin in Aurora the following week. <br />4. Statewide Non-Consumptive Needs Assessment <br />It was decided to postpone this discussion until the next Roundtable meeting in April. <br />5. Roundtable Membership <br />Tom Kenyon was welcomed as the Mesa County Representative, replacing Bill Byers on the <br />Gunnison Basin Roundtable. <br />Tom Brubaker resigned from the Gunnison Basin Roundtable due to the fact that he sold his <br />water rights in the Gunnison Basin and no longer can sit on the Roundtable.
