Reservoir (Dam) Locations
These coverages contain dam locations and related engineering data. This information is populated for
the Western Slope of Colorado from the dam network that consists of dBase formatted files. The dam's
core network is from the Division of Water Resources, State Engineer's Office in Greeley.
Transbasin Diversion Input Locations and Diversion Structure Locations
These data were received in ASCII format with the point location of diversion structures within the
Water Division 4 from the State Engineer?s Office.
Stream Gage Locations
This coverage is for the Division of Water Resources water gages on the Western Slope. This coverage
was created by generating a coverage from DMS (Degrees/Minutes/ Seconds) that were determined by
State Engineer?s Office field personnel using paper 7.5-minute quads. Original data were provided by
the State Engineer?s Office in , an ARC/INFO export file.
dwrgages.e00
Climate and Weather Station Locations
These coverages contain UTM point locations for weather stations. Point locations were provided by
RTi in latitude/longitude and then converted to UTM coordinates. Coverage includes all weather stations
contained in the historical database.
Isohyetal Map of Precipitation
These data are from an isohyetal map detailing Colorado's average annual precipitation from 1951-1980.
This map was digitized from a 1:500,000 resolution map published by the Colorado Climate Center.
Procedures and data used to prepare this map are contained in the report Analysis of Colorado Average
Annual Precipitation for the 1951-1980 Period (Colorado Climate Report 84-4), published by the
Colorado Climate Center. The arc attribute table (AAT) file contains the original information assigned
to lines. The polygon attribute table (PAT) contains the precipitation value assigned to polygons that are
estimated as the middle value between limiting lines.
Soils
Data included are soil texture and available water capacity (AWC). The Soil Conservation Service
(SCS) identifies AWC for soil types mapped in the field as part of the National Cooperative Soil Survey.
Spatial data for soils were collected through the Soils Department at Colorado State University. This is
part of the State Soil Geographic Database (STATSGO) data produced by the SCS. The soil data were
imported into ARC/INFO and then exported into GRASS: ? ? (100X100 meters cell size) and
soil100k
? ? (50X50 meters cell size). These data and additional information about soil
soil100k_50grid
characteristics, location, and extent, are compiled and stored by the SCS in the computerized STATSGO
using 1:250,000 resolution. STATSGO information is available for many of the areas being included for
estimating consumptive use.
5
A275 01.08.95 1.06-3 Lange
