River Reach Data
River reach data provide precise information on rivers organized by river sections (reaches). Data for the
Gunnison River basin have been obtained and are being processed.
State Water Division and Water District Boundaries
This coverage has been obtained from the State's inventory in ARC/INFO format. The original source is
from the State Engineer's Office of Colorado. The ARC/INFO export file was used
divdist.e00
directly from the State.
Municipal Locations and Populations
Municipalities, locations for reference points, and population levels are populated for the Gunnison River
basin. These data are used to determine human consumptive use. Data for Western Slope municipalities
at 1:100,000 resolution from Tiger files containing 1990 census data include population density at that
moment and not historical population levels (DOLA 1990).
County Boundaries
County boundaries are populated for the Gunnison River basin. These data are used for geo-referencing.
The coverages include Western Slope county boundaries at 1:100,000 resolution from DOLA.
Highways and Roads
Highways and county road networks are used for geo-referencing. The coverages include the Western
Slope highway network at 1:100,000 resolution from DOLA.
Irrigated Parcels of Land
These data include the crop type grown on each irrigated parcel of land. These data are currently
populated for the Gunnison River basin in . The San Juan
/crdss_arc/irr_lands/irr_d4_1194
River basin, Division 7 is nearly populated and will be in
/crdss_arc/irr_lands/
. Data were obtained from the Colorado Department of Natural Resources, Division of
irr_d7_1194
Water Resources.
Land Use
The land use coverages contain 1:250,000 resolution land use and land cover (LULC) data from the
USGS. These data were obtained over the Internet and can be accessed in the on-line documentation. The
LULC map is compiled to portray the Level II categories of the LULC classification system documented
by Anderson and others (1976). The Level II categories of this LULC classification system provide the
user with a basic framework to which third-and fourth-level categories may be added. Initial data were
retrieved in GIRAS format and converted to ARC/INFO. LULC GIRAS data are routinely stored in
UTM coordinate system shifted to the nearest 100,000 meter UTM grid intersection, which is both west
and south of all map control points and is used as a local origin (x, y = 0,0). Therefore, the 20 1:250,000
resolution sheets generated in ARC/INFO were transformed to their real origin and appended to produce
a unique cover.
4
A275 01.08.95 1.06-3 Lange
