I
... CHApTER 3. WATER MANAGEMENT PLAN

I

Objective: Improve pricing ,structure to reflect additional I costs associated with delivery to small
users

I
I
Objective: Improve polices to address water transfers and Idevelopment near delivery canals
I
I

Alternative Evaluation

Several alternatives were examined to address water manag~ment. concerns. Each alternative was
evaluated based on technical feasibility,. pragmatic feasibility, anticipated benefits, and estimated costs.
Pragmatic feasibility included evaluation of operation, maintenance, and environmental concerns. Feasible
alternatives with benefits outweighing costs were selected for implementation. Table 3-1 displays an
example of the evaluation matrix applied during the alternative evaluation.

TABLE 3-1
Alternative Evaluation Matrix Example

Obiective: Imorove control of water diverted at FMC headqate durina river flow fluctuations
Alternative Technical Feasibility Pragmatic Feasibility Benefits Estimated
, Cost
Automate radial Difficult to fine tune flow Existing gate does not Reduced risk of $55,000
headgate with large radial gate operate smoothly and operational spill, reduced
would need replacement, staff time, better control of
less diversion control, water diverted, remote
high O&M monitoring
'C.
Automate waste Common installation Common installation, Reduced risk of $15,000
canal gate existing waste canal operational spill,
gate, more diversion reduced staff time,
control better control of water
diverted, remote
monitoring
Construct new canal Large structure given Discharge under Hwy. Each action and the
associated benefits are briefly described below.

The NFWCD will attempt to make progress on high priority actions within the next five years. Medium or
low priority actions are ongoing activities that will be addressed as additional information is gathered or
funding becomes available. The NFWCD may modify priorities; completion dates, or selected actions if
funding cannot be secured or additional information shows a decrease in effectiveness. Before
commencement of each action, the NFWCD will conduct compliance reviews to ensure all applicable
federal, state, and local laws are followed.

3-3

I
1-:

I

~.....,
~ )
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
81
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
8.
I
